3rd Day - Free Day of Swimming

Saturday, July 9th, 2022 consisted of a free day for some swimming...

After our morning chores we had planned a day to spend it at Two Rivers where the rivers meet one another and the Spokane Tribe has a casino and resort there, as well as campgrounds. Directly across the bridge is Ft. Spokane where another swimming area is designated for the public.

I was able to take my two boys for the day to take them swimming and as soon as we got there they were excited to meet the mentors and classmates but couldn't wait to get in the water. Boys will be boys they played and fought like brothers in front of everyone but overall it was all a good time. My little one helped me find pretty rocks by sifting sand with his little sand bucket and shovel kit and began to pick some for Agnes, Calista and Dehlia. It was too sweet. My older one showed me how brave he was swimming from shore to the floating dock all by himself and jumping off of it. I was thankful I had Lance and a couple others looking after my boys when it began to get crowded in the swimming area. It felt really good to have that and felt like family playing, watching over them and engaging.

We sat and picnicked together had some good conversation and laughs. After we wrapped up the swimming day I got the boys some smoothies with whip cream after letting me know what flavors they wanted and they fought over the colors of their smoothies because the little wanted pink but his was purple. Then they began to fight over a stick that looked like an arrow and fell asleep once we got back to their grandparents. They are so much work and yet so much fun, I love being mom lol and appreciate that I can share this trip with them and spend time with them when there is down time.

Once we got back to camp we were able to check out our water test samples from back at campus I forgot to mention on the departure day that was collected by Corbin from OSU.  We documented the bacteria growth and fungus growth of the particular sample as well as the one from Cottonwood creek. it was cool to see the growth and I can't wait till we further look into it with microscopes and determine the names of the fungi and bacteria.  Then we did one more sample of the lake on the Reservation and did some data collecting with the hydrolab just because we wanted to and we are scientists so it was a must to go the extra mile of adding on more work.

We ended the day with a cool card game and Jaime had his movie night idea come to life where everyone watched "Antlers" which I had seen and I was so tired I watched tik tok in my tent and fell asleep. It was a good day of fun, bonding and science.
